Tuesday, August 19, 2008
22nd NASCAR season at track brings two events for fifth straight year
In line with NASCAR's release of the 2009 season schedule, Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber announced today the schedule for the 2009 NASCAR season at PIR, noting that PIR will maintain its spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup and move its April event one week later.
With Easter and the traditional series break falling on April 12, the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ weekend at PIR will move one week later, to Saturday, April 18. The NASCAR Camping World Series West kicks off the nighttime excitement on Thursday, April 16, followed by the NASCAR Nationwide Series Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 under the lights on Friday, April 17. As it has since 2005, Saturday’s SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ will run under PIR’s bright lights, with 43 of NASCAR’s finest creating one of the most intense atmospheres in all of motorsports.
NASCAR returns to Phoenix for its traditional fall weekend in November, taking the track from Thursday, November 12 to Sunday, November 15, including Sunday’s Semi-Final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Presented by Pennzoil. All three of NASCAR’s top divisions - the NASCAR Truck Series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – will travel to the West Valley as the championship chase comes to a close.
