FAQs

1. Can I bring children to the races?

Yes! Children 12 years old or younger will enjoy free admission when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult on most general admission days at the track, and/or for most general admission areas of the track. On reserved days, everyone regardless of age will need a ticket in the grandstands. Discounts for children 12 years and younger are available in select areas. Please call the PIR Ticket Office at 1-866-408-RACE (7223) for details.

2. Can I bring liquor into the track?

No. Arizona state liquor laws prohibit alcohol from being brought onto the track property. Also, no glass containers are allowed in the grandstands.

3. Can I bring a cooler into the track?

Yes! However, due to increased security policies, PIR will not allow any hard-sided coolers. Soft-sided coolers may not exceed 6" x 6" x 12". Remember, no alcohol or glass containers are allowed.

4. What else can I bring through the gates?

One soft side bag/cooler, no larger than 6" x 6" x 12".

  • Examples include: a soft-sided insulated cooler, a scanner bag, a fanny pack, a purse, a diaper bag, or a binocular bag, etc.
  • This one bag may be carried in any manner, i.e. by handle, with shoulder straps, on a belt, etc.
  • The soft-sided insulated cooler may contain ice.

One clear plastic bag, no larger than 18" x 18" x 4".

  • To accommodate samples received and purchases made after fans have parked their cars.
  • Clear plastic bags may not contain ice.

Binoculars, scanners, headsets, cameras, not in a bag, worn separately over the neck or on the belt and seat cushions carried separately are also allowed.

  • Seat cushion bags with compartments will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Note: Fans are allowed to bring in one each of the bags described above.
All items brought through a grandstand gate will be inspected.

5. What should I leave at home?

  • Soft-sided bags exceeding 6" x 6" x 12" will not be allowed into the grandstands. This includes but is not limited to: purses, camera bags, fanny packs, scanner bags, etc. All items brought through the grandstand admission gates (purses, scanners, small camera bags, binoculars, etc.) are subject to search by security officials.
  • Hard sided coolers, thermoses and insulated cups of any size.
  • Umbrellas are not allowed in the grandstands.
  • No wood burning fires are allowed on the property, nor campfires of any kind.
  • Campfires are not allowed on the property.
  • Strollers, wagons, bicycles and golf carts are not allowed on the property.
  • Scaffolds, platforms, ladders and/or lift trucks are not allowed on the property.
  • Golf carts and ATV-type vehicles, including 3-wheelers, quads, etc. are not allowed on the property.

6. Can I bring a camera or video recorder?

Yes! However, cameras and video recorders are permitted in the facility for home viewing use only. Images and/or footage may not be sold or used for commercial use. Camera/video bags exceeding 6" x 6" x 12" will not be permitted through the grandstand admission gates.

7. Where can I pick up credentials?

If you have applied for and been approved to receive official race credentials you may pick them up at the Credential Office at Gate 1. A photo ID will be required to retrieve your credentials.

8. Are there any restrictions on Grandstand and Infield Tickets?

  • Grandstand tickets provide access to grandstand seating only. Infield passes must be purchased separately.
  • Infield tickets provide access to the infield only and do not include grandstand access unless otherwise indicated.
  • Each person who has purchased a weekend infield pass will be issued a wristband. THIS BAND DOES NOT ALLOW PIT ACCESS. It allows access to the grandstands on most general admission days or to the hillside on any day the hillside is open. It does not allow grandstand admission on any reserved seating day.
  • Infield Access is via the Tunnel located next to Gate 8

9. Is General Admission seating available?

Most practice and qualifying days are general admission (first come, first served.) On reserved grandstand days, the PIR Hillside is available for general admission seating. It is recommended that guests who purchase hillside tickets bring a chair or blanket to sit on, as there are no actual seats on the hill. Entrances for the hillside are located at Gate 9 and Gate 11. Full size coolers are allowed on the hill, but can contain no glass containers or alcoholic beverages. Food, souvenirs, and portable toilets are located nearby.

10. What about Pre-Race Pit Passes?

Pre-race pit pass coupons may be redeemed at the Trading Post located at Gate 3 or 7. Each individual coupon holder must sign a waiver. Pre-race pit passes are not valid for gate admission; an admission ticket or infield wrist band are also required. Passes are valid each day that gate admission is charged, until one hour prior to the start of the race. The only exception is on Sunday of the Sprint Cup race; on that day the pits are open until 10:30 a.m.

  • Guests must be 18 years of age or older to enter the pit area.
  • Guests must have an admission ticket accompanying the pit pass for each day he/she wants to enter the pit area.
  • Smoking is not allowed in the pit area.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the pit area.
  • Pre-race pit passes are non-transferable and must be visible at all times.
  • On a NASCAR weekend, there is NO garage access with a pre-race pit pass.
  • Dress Code: Shoulders and feet must be covered. Long pants are recommended.

11. Does PIR have a Will Call Window?

Yes! "Will Call" is for tickets purchased/paid for in advance but not received prior to the race. The Will Call window is located at the Gate 3 ticket office. A photo ID is required to pick up tickets at Will Call and only the person whose name appears on the ticket account may pick up the tickets.

12. What are the PIR Ticket Office's hours?

The PIR Ticket Office (125 S. Avondale Blvd., Suite 200, Avondale, AZ 85323) is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ticket office phone number is 1-866-408-RACE (7223). Tickets can also be purchased at the track during race weekends at the Ticket Offices at Gate 3 and Gate 7. Both offices are open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. each day admission is charged. Hours are subject to change, so please call the ticket office to verify hours on race weekends.

13. What should I do in case of an emergency?

In case of an emergency, or if you observe an inappropriate, dangerous, or possibly illegal activity, please contact a track representative immediately. Phoenix International Raceway ushers are on duty throughout the grandstands and are easily identifiable by their security vests. If you need to reach a raceway guest in an emergency situation, please call (623) 463-5400 to page through the public address system. Sorry, non-emergency pages cannot be accommodated.

14. Where can I stay if I come to Phoenix for a race?

There are a variety of lodging facilities, including motels, hotels and resorts, near Phoenix International Raceway and throughout the metropolitan Phoenix area. Information on these accommodations is available by contacting the track at (623) 463-5400 or the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau at (602) 254-6500 or 1-877-CALL-PHX.

15. Where can I get PIR souvenirs?

Phoenix International Raceway has numerous souvenir stands throughout the track offering collectibles, apparel, and more. The stores feature merchandise from all of the top NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers and teams. Another retail store is located at the Oasis entertainment deck behind the Bobby Allison Grandstands, outside of turn two between Gates 2 and 3.

16. Are souvenir programs available?

Race weekend programs are packed with information and original articles about the feature races. Also included in the program are starting lineups and driver/team radio frequencies (on an if-available basis). The cost of a souvenir program varies from race weekend to race weekend.

17. What's the best way to get to the track?

PIR is located at the following address:

7602 S. Avondale Blvd.
Avondale, AZ 85323

It's approximately six miles south of Interstate 10 at Exit 131, just south of the corner of Avondale Blvd. and Southern Rd.

Local traffic is flowed and enforced by Phoenix International Raceway and local law enforcement agencies. All information regarding routes, suggestions, detours, etc. is available prior to race day in The Arizona Republic. Traffic information is also broadcast on the local Highway Advisory Radio station, 530 AM. This station's signal can be received within a three-mile radius of the track and offers the most up-to-the-minute traffic reports. Additionally, you can listen to driver interviews, track facts, and more to help make the trip more enjoyable.

18. What happens if there's a weather delay?

The racing schedules are determined by the sanctioning bodies and Phoenix International Raceway. In the event of a delay or postponement due to severe or unusual weather, all admission tickets will be honored on the rescheduled race day. All ticket sales are final; there are no refunds. In the event of threatening weather, Phoenix International Raceway requests that all guests seek shelter immediately from potentially hazardous situations. In the event of lightning, please leave the grandstands immediately in favor of shelter beneath.
